2302 South 4th Street
This was Chapman's original store, it was at 4th and Hickory near Floyd School
In 1957, the state bought all of the property on the west side of 4th street to build a highway from the Missouri River bridge to the stockyards, which is now Missouri 759 Highway, otherwise called Stockyards Expressway
The property is now an empty lot with a highway running close by
Mr Chapman then bought Owen Henson HY-KLAS #14 store that was located on the corner of 20th and Messanie and called it Chapman's Thriftee
Chapman's Thrifter is listed further down under Owen Henson. There are some distant photos of his 2nd store in that section
The above information was provided by his son, Paul Chapman

Once painted white, this store was located at 2901 Edmond
The grocery store owned and operated by Dick Ruoff.
I can remember in the early 1950's my grandmother giving me a quarter, telling me to get a loaf of bread and quart of milk, allowing me to buy a 3 Musketeer candy bar and still have change to give her back. The bread was wrapped in wax paper and the milk had a cardboard stopper.

Originally, G & M Grocery occupied the small building
It was Anna Laura's for as long as I can remember
The small store was located directly across from Edison School
The store was crammed full from front to back
Anna Laura was one of the sweetest ladies you could ever meet
She was robbed and severely beaten, dying shortly afterwards
I never heard if they caught the culprit
After Anna Laura's death, her small store was torn down
A new Family Resource Center building was constructed
